PRAYER AND CARE

St. Peter’s embodies the love of Christ by caring for parishioners in need and providing the community with opportunities to come together in prayer.

Centering Prayer

Prayer is talking to God.  But prayer can more importantly be “listening to God.”  Just being there, quietly gathered in God’s presence. St. Peter’s Centering Prayer is a group of individuals who practice this quiet centering or listening to God through a word or phrase.

We start with a community time of checking in for 15 minutes to rid ourselves from our world’s distractions, questions, and busyness. We begin Centering Prayer with a scripture or devotional reading, followed with a twenty minute period of silence using a word or phrase to clear the mind of the outward thoughts and simply listening. Then a time of reflection and closing with the Lord’s Prayer. Centering Prayer enhances our experience with God.

Everyone is welcome. For more information, contact Cheryl McCracken (214-405-9685).

Daughters of the King

The Daughters of the King is a Religious Order for women of the Episcopal Church, of churches in communion with it, or in churches in the Historic Episcopate, who pledge themselves to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of their parishes.

Like other religious Orders, the Order of the Daughters of the King has a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and Rule of Service.

In the Rule of Prayer, Daughters vow to pray daily for the extension of Christ’s Kingdom, for the spiritual growth of the Church, especially for their diocese or parish, and for all who need emotional, spiritual, and physical healing, and for the work of the Order.

In the Rule of Service, Daughters vow to participate regularly in the worship, study and work of the Church, to assist their priest in any way possible, and to bring others to a knowledge and love of our Lord.

St. Peter’s chapter of The Daughters of the King meets the 1st Monday of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the Terrill House.

Order of St. Luke Healing Ministry

The Order exists to promote and practice the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.  We do this by being available to pray with people for personal healing, or joining with them to offer intercessory prayer for others.

Members of the prayer team are available by appointment.  We will be happy to meet with anyone who needs prayers for any type of healing.  This allows whoever is in need an extended, peaceful time of prayer and supplication.  In addition to that special time, we are always on call to make home, or hospital visits.

We will also offer prayer on Sundays after the service.  No prayer is too big or too small, the Lord cherishes all of them.

For more information, contact Molly Mitchell (214-578-3899).

Pastoral Care

We train volunteer lay people to participate in Christian communities committed to pastoral care. Upon completion of the initial training, the lay pastoral caregivers select a place in which to offer a pastoral care ministry. “Pastoral care” is when a person is being “present” in a listening, compassionate, non-controlling manner to an individual or group for the purpose of representing God to them and seeking to respond to their spiritual needs.

If this is a ministry that touches your heart and you would like to know more, contact lpv@stpetersmckinney.com or Deacon Betty (972-562-1166).

Prayer Chain

Prayer Chain is made of of St. Peter’s parishioners dedicated to praying for others. Prayer requests to the Prayer Chain are sent by email.
