Dear friends,
I write with sadness to tell you that St. Peter’s will not be offering public worship or holding public gatherings on-site until further notice. I know this will be met with shock, frustration, and disappointment. And I want you to know I share in that. We will instead be offering a live-streamed service on Facebook at 9:00 a.m. The video will also be emailed on Sunday morning to the congregation along with a bulletin.
While deeply disappointed, I support my bishop and the decision he has made for the Diocese of Dallas. Bishop Sumner has discerned this outcome carefully, and with all of the advice available to him, in order to protect the most vulnerable in our community.
I mourn that in 144 years, we have never before had to shut our doors. Not even after the fire in 1959 did St. Peter’s stop holding public worship. Therefore, as an act of solidarity with those who have called St. Peter’s home through the years, I call on you all to stand with me on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. in prayer and worship. Wherever you are, stop what you are doing, tune in, and join me. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
Please continue to reach out to me and the other clergy with prayer requests and pastoral concerns. We continue to serve God and his people, and to provide care and Sacraments to those in need. This is not a time to be isolated from your church home, but to be more deeply connected.
You are in my prayers. God loves you, and I love you. And the church remains here for you through the coming weeks.
In Christ,
Fr. Perry Mullins
O most mighty and merciful God, in this time of grievous sickness, we flee unto thee for succor. Deliver us, we beseech thee, from our peril; give strength and skill to all those who minister to the sick; prosper the means made use of for their cure; and grant that, perceiving how frail and uncertain our life is, we may apply our hearts unto that heavenly wisdom which leadeth to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
