I’m disappointed to tell you that the Bishop has rescinded permission for us to do curbside Communion pick-up on Easter morning. His concerns are for the health and safety of our parishioners, which I understand and support. But I will admit, I am saddened. The Eucharist has always been a great comfort to me in times of distress. I have attached the prayers for Spiritual Communion that we are using each week from the St. Augustine’s Prayer Book. I pray they provide the same comfort, grace, and peace.
I do want you to know that we took great precaution in preparing the Communion hosts—we used gloves and masks, and we packaged them 14 days in advance of handing them out to be sure that no one involved in packaging developed symptoms. But I understand the overabundance of caution, and therefore, we will not be able to distribute Communion on Easter this year.
Much of my ministry at the moment is planning things that I know may not come to fruition. That is as frustrating to me as it is to you. But rest assured, no matter what happens, St. Peter’s will continue worshiping. Clearly it will not be in the way we’re used to, but we will be constant through the changes and chances of life, resting in God’s eternal changelessness.
Fr. Perry
