When we read the familiar story of Mary and Martha, we want to put them in categories—Mary is worshipful and calm and Martha is busy and frantic. However the story is more complicated than that, and likewise, we are called to be worshipful not just in the calm moments, but also in the busy ones. The Christian life is about learning to seek Jesus in every part of our lives, no matter what is going on. We are called to worship and learn like Mary, and we are also called to serve with compassion like Martha. Without either, our faith is lacking. As we get closer to the beginning of the program year and our ministry fair on August 14, look at your own Christian ministry and ask yourself if there is an area that is lacking and how you are called to grow in faith with us at St. Peter’s.
