In Revelation, John speaks of a new creation. How will it be different from the old? Let’s start with what will be missing from the new creation—death, mourning, crying, and pain. John allows that there may be residual pain from the old creation. If there is, God will gently wipe away our tears. Notice that God will not send someone else to wipe away our tears—not an angel, not a saint, not Mary herself. God reserves that opportunity, that act of healing, of love, for God’s self.
