Jesus did not defend himself in front of Herod and Pilate, nor did he respond to the taunts shouted at him at Golgotha. Why? Why didn’t he mount a defense and save himself? From the moment the serpent slithered, and the flesh of the apple tore, Jesus knew. He knew he would atone for our sins by being born, having flesh, and then allowing his flesh to be torn with nails. Jesus would offer his own life for our sins. If he was the Son of God, he would not come down from the cross, he would not save himself, but he would save us.
