John the Baptist was in the wilderness calling to the people of Israel during a time of intense strife and unrest. His message was to prepare for the coming of the King. It was time to re-think their lives and see things from God’s perspective. John is speaking to us during our Advent spiritual preparation to stay open to an ever deeper change of our hearts. Consider incorporating “A Prayer of Self-Dedication” (BCP, page 832) during your Advent prayer time.
Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to you, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations, so control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and then use us, we pray, as you will, and always to your glory and the welfare of your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
