As we wrap up the sermon series on gothic church architecture, we find ourselves at the pinnacle of our worship space—the Sanctuary—and in it, the altar and the tabernacle. The Sanctuary is a place of power and majesty, a place of sacrifice, and a place of intimacy where we meet God. But above all else, it is a place of healing. We experience so much pain in this world. But in the church, we get a little glimpse of the Last Day, when all things will be made right. And when we leave through the narthex to go back out into the world, we find that a weight has been lifted off our shoulders, that our perspective has been changed, and that we have received not only healing—we have received God Himself.
