Church architecture through the ages has always been a fascinating representation of the faith of those who worship in the churches. A gothic church has four main pieces: the narthex, the nave, the quire, and the sanctuary. For the next four Sundays, we will study them and their impact on our worship and faith. The narthex is the entryway into the church and serves as a bridge between the church and the outside world. The narthex is a place where we can greet one another and begin to shed the burdens of life before entering worship. It is a sign for us that we are entering a holy place. How do you prepare your heart for worship, and how do you prepare yourself after worship to go back out into the world in love?
