Doubt can close us off and make it difficult to trust ourselves or others. It can be self-assured or self-destructive, which are equally bad. We have plenty of reasons to believe in God, but we are human, and we still have questions, just like ‘Doubting’ Thomas. To doubt faithfully means to keep attending church, to study Scripture, to pray, and to talk to other Christians about our questions. It’s way harder than coming to quick, easy conclusions, and it often leaves us in gray areas without easy answers, but that’s where we find the truth. I pray that you will doubt faithfully with us at St. Peter’s, and I pray that through those doubts, you will grow in faith.
