When we hear the ancient stories of the Exodus from Egypt and the release of the captives from Babylon, we hear God’s promises. Those promises were made to the Israelite slaves in Egypt, but those promises did not wither and vanish once fulfilled. They remained true 900 years later for God’s people in Babylon. They remain true for us. God is a promise keeper. That gives us hope of a future with God’s promises fulfilled. God promises to save, to give us a home, a future, and to be with us on our journeys. When we gather here on Good Friday, we will see the lengths God will go to fulfill God’s promises.
