The Feast of the Presentation commemorates when Mary brought Jesus to the Temple to thank God for his birth. This was a normal custom for a firstborn son. But there was also something abnormal about this particular occasion. The son was God himself. Even though the Temple was the place where the Glory of God dwelt on earth, God came to his dwelling place not in fire and power, like people expected, but in humility as one of us. Humility is something we all need to learn. Forgive someone who has wronged you this week. Give up your pride. No one will think less of you if you do. And even if they do, that’s ok. After all, if the Creator of the universe humbled himself for us, the least we can do is to humble ourselves for one another.
