Mental health is a serious issue that we, as the church, need to talk more openly about. The brokenness of the world separates us from one another and from God, and pain and suffering are infinitely worse when we are alone. But the Good News is that God refuses to leave us to our own devices. Through the church, we are being reconciled and reconnected, and we find ourselves in relationships with God and with one another that have the power to transform our lives.
If you are experiencing deep pain or suffering, or an issue of mental health like depression or anxiety, please gather the courage to reach out to your clergy or to anyone in the pews around you or a counselor—or maybe all three. Here’s what another priest in Dallas has to say about mental health.
We are your family, and we will stand by your side. Please, don’t do this alone.
