Jesus Calls Four Fishermen and Us, Too

To hear that Jesus called Simon, Andrew, James and John to follow him while they were in the middle of an ordinary day doing ordinary fishermen tasks of casting nets and mending nets gets our attention. Would we hear Jesus in the midst of our ordinary day? Would we answer “yes” without question or discussion? Frederick Beuchner, a Presbyterian theologian, describes call this way: “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”  Take time to identify your “deep gladness” and what deep hungers of the world touch you. Take time to listen for Jesus.
